Indifference

Jay: It's a fad...It's cool to be indifferent...In fact people even fake it...
Me: Maybe...but more important than that, I think one should be SCARED of indifference...It
means you have no passion left in anything...you dont react, neither does anything or anyone matter to you...
Jay: Isn't that salvation? That's what the rishis have been talking about all the time..."moh maya" and stuff...In a nutshell, indifference is utopia...
Me: The tsunami is indifferent...to old, young,healthy,sick....but the 'salvated' (if the word exists at all) like Budhdha REACTS proportionately...he cures the sick or teaches the oppressor a lesson...yes... He does not react with feeling but He reacts...He reacts in the ideal way...
Jay: I can beat that...hang on...( he lights a cigarette)...
Jay:Summer romance or Brazilian delights?
Me: I am indifferent. Both are chocolate flavours and both are "Melting Moments" brands.
Jay: Are u? The very fact that you "prefer" chocolate and you "love" "Melting Moments" ice creams shows that you are far from indifferent...so reacting "proportionately" DOES somewhere require a little bit of "preference" or at least an understanding of "ideal treatment " or appreciation of the fact that "preference exists" and such proportionate reactions CANNOT be independent of preference...Howzzzzat??
Me: I'm game....Brazilian Delights for me...
Jay: :)

forgive me for i am intruding in everything that you have written.... but i can't help...one that i am not doing much work...second that the writeup inspires me to write a note or two...
well it is said that it takes perhaps a thousand muscle to smile...n equal amount to frown...but it takes none with a sit with a indifference look. :)

On a serious note, i don't think there is anything call as indifference as a whole...if you prefer to ignore it...it's still a preference. isn't it?
